Metro line 3
The third line is an essential east-west line Cairo Metro Rapid Transit System, with a total length of 34.2 km (21.3 miles) and 34 stations (21 below ground, 2 at grade, and 11 elevated).Built and managed in seven sections from 2007 to 2024, it runs from Rod El Farag Corridor in Imbaba to Cairo University in El-Mohandessin and Dokki on the Nile’s west side and to Adly Mansour terminus in northeastern Cairo. The line crosses the Nile twice: Only once between Kit Kat and Zamalek, and the other between Zamalek and downtown Cairo.First it employed Japanese made trains from Kinki Sharyo and Toshiba, then trains constructed by Hyundai Rotem and NERIC, a Korean Egyptian company.Still, only Line 3 is operated by a private company for now, namely the French RATP Dev, with the signed 15 years concession effective since June 2021.
